beauty within patterns

Every day, a common purpose of science and art is perceived with greater clarity:
to describe the complexity of the world through research and creativity.
The project consists of a serie of 30 digital pieces, based on scientific images
which are the outcome of recent biological research.
During my studies in Israel I had the opportunity to work with images from the biological world.
It was then that the beauty of these images first caught my attention.
This project has a double aim: the interpretation of scientific images with an artistic objective
and to bring scientific research closer to the public,
highlighting the importance of research in biology today.
The interpretation of the work will be determined by the individual’s knowledge;
for the scientific eye an image will evoke biological patterns
for example cellular nuclei, neuronal membranes, axons or lymphocytes...
whereas to the untrained eye it is the immediate visual impact of the work
that initially strikes the viewer - but it is the complexity of the art that encourages them
to take a closer interest in the background of the works.
The first five works in this project have been produced
with the collaboration of Belgian Scientists during July 2010
at The Artist Residence at the Verbeke Foundation (Antwerpen · Belgium).
Plans are underway to exhibit The Spanish and Israeli Scientist Serie
which I am currently working on, at Casa Sefarad (Madrid · Spain) in October 2011.
